In June 2019, an article written by Philippe Lecorne, a member of the Eurocef Board, appeared in the magazine Lex Social, on the subject of the collective claim brought by Eurocef in favour of MENA Rights.
SUMMARY
In February 2015, EUROCEF (Comité européen d'action spécialisée pour l'enfant et la famille dans leur milieu de vie) lodged a collective complaint with the European Committee of Social Rights against France for failure to comply with its commitments under the European Social Charter with regard to the reception and support of unaccompanied foreign minors (UFMs) arriving on its territory.
The decision by the European Committee of Social Rights that there were several cases of violation of the provisions of the European Social Charter, and the subsequent resolution by the Committee of Ministers, should lead France to review its reception and support arrangements for MENAs, both from the point of view of its regulations and current practices.
This position taken by the European authorities is of course an indictment of France, but above all it reminds all Europeans that the European Social Charter is one of the most important instruments for defending and promoting the social rights of minorities.
